Wilderness Camping 'How To' Section,
Introduction and Table of Contents
This section of the canoebase.com website was developed to offer some
hints and tips on canoe camping in the wilderness. It is not intended to
ever be an all-inclusive information source for canoe expeditioning. There
are several good books that cover the topic pretty well, as well as some
other, more recent info available on the Web. We plan to only provide
information on topics in selected areas in which we have not seen good
material elsewhere.
At first a large part of this section will be some basics of map and GPS
coordinates and using them
in the wilderness. It will not tell you how to use your GPS, or how to
interface your unknown (to me) GPS with your (also) unknown computer, cable,
and software. You will be working
with coordinates here, but on paper for now, not on your GPS. Figuring out
how to put a coordinate that the GPS gives you onto a map. Some actual
GPS coordinates for the trips listed here are in the respective trip sections
(an example is the NBL Waypoints Page),
and many small sections of maps will also eventually be available in the
trips section so you can practice with both waypoints and maps.
