Wilderness Canoe Tripping
Azure Lake View![]() I'm standing at the edge of the woods, right in front of our tents, facing just about straight west while snapping this digital photo. That's John Snively standing in the left side of the picture, taking in the scenery with Alison, his paddling partner seated in the chair next to him. John's blue Kevlar Wenonah Odyssey is pulled up on the beach just beyond him. My wife, Laurie, is seated in the green chair more towards the center of the picture. The yellow canoe is Laurie's and mine, a fiberglass and Kevlar expedition layup Sea Clipper model made by Clipper Canoes (Western Canoeing) in Abbotsford, British Columbia (east of Vancouver, BC). There's a link to both Wenonah and Clipper Canoes in the manufacturer's folder in the Links section of this Canoes group Web site so you can see specs on them if you're interested. The surface of Azure Lake is about 2,234 feet elevation, and those mountains along the north shore go up to almost 8,000 feet elevation. You can't see it well in this smaller photo, but there's some snow on the tops of them. There's a large glacier system out of sight behind the mountains. It feeds the lake system we're paddling on. The glaciers cause some of the blue to turquoise color of the water in the photos.
