North River Sieve, Image 1
John took this picture looking at Dennis's first glimpse of what we started calling "The Sieve." Just above here a small creek comes in on the right where there was snow on the bank, and the river bed gets very wide over rocks and small boulders. It probably averaged 100 yards/meters wide for almost a quarter mile (400 m). Gradient and current speed was low, but no clear channels. We had to get out and walk, pulling the boats over shallow spots, looking for enough water to float them.
