Wilderness Canoe Tripping
North River Campsite Image
A shot by John of our campsite on the North River not far above Fire Lake. We are on a sandbar in a slow section of the river. Lots of swampy area around so we cannot hike much from here. Dennis tried to go on an evening walk about, checking for birds, other wildlife, and what else there is to see. He did not get very far in this area. Low sandbars like this change every year. This spot might not exist, or be usable as a campsite the next season. Water levels also dictate whether low spots like this can be used or not. We could have gone on down to Fire Lake to camp, but figured that the noise from the aircraft located there might ruin the experience so elected to stay upstream. We should have gone a little farther, though.
