Black Lake, Image 2
Black Lake from the air showing the river meander scarring just above the lake. You can tell places the river has been, probably over the last several hundred years. Larger than normal floods would change the river's course, and the old course would then fill with vegetation. Much of the braids area above Black Lake probably looks like this. Black Lake was probably much longer even just a few thousand years ago. Sediments tend to fill the headwaters areas and fill in on down the lake.
