Wilderness Canoe Tripping
Yukon Territory - Big Salmon/Yukon River Trip,
Yukon Traveler Information
Unorganized, I'm still collecting and collating.
Portland, Oregon to Whitehorse is about an 1800 mile drive,
one way. That's 2-3 days, each way.
Gasoline is expensive and stations are sometimes far apart on the
way up, as are
mechanical services. Make sure your vehicle is in good working
order before you leave, and carry at least one (good) spare tire,
a headlight, basic tools, ?what else? It's recommended that you
get any flat tires fixed, headlights replaced, etc, at the very
next service station you pass.
Have your mosquito repellent stuff handy (DEET, headnets, etc.) if you are camping your
way up. As a general rule, the later in the summer you go, the less
you'll need it. Don't leave it at home, though.
